正月初五，也叫“破五”，是我国的传统节日，在这一天有很多讲究和习俗，在《岁时琐事》中记载说：“欲有所作为，必过此五日，始行之”，意思就是在春节期间有很多规矩和讲究，不能乱说话，不能说不吉利的话，过了初五之后人们不必有这些忌讳。
“破五”这一天，人们最在意的一件事情就是“送穷迎财”，即智穷、学穷、文穷、命穷、交穷，民间把这五穷称之为五穷鬼，大家会用不同的习俗将这五穷送走，比如在陕西韩城一带，大家会炒麻豆，将豆子炒到噼里啪啦作响，意思就时把坏的运气“崩走”。当然除了送穷之外，这5件事，破五一定不要忘。
一、迎财神
据说正月初五是财神的生日，从这一天凌晨开始，人们就开始相继迎财神，普通人家会给财神供上水果，面条或者饺子，在烧香求拜，燃放鞭炮以此求得财运，而且给财神贡过的吃食，再让家里人吃，来年财运一定会旺。
财神即五路神。所谓五路，指东西南北中，意为出门五路，皆可得财。除了五路神之外，还有武财神，文财神等说法，但无论拜哪个财神，只要心诚，皆能带来财运。
二、吃饺子
俗话说“好吃不如饺子”，在中国大大小小的节日里，都离不开吃饺子，除了美味之外，它已经是中华美食重要的组成部分。从初一到初五禁忌比较多，所以到了破五吃饺子，表示庆贺不在有禁忌了。另外还有人“包饺子，捏住小人嘴”的说法，意思就是来年小人少说坏话。
三、打扫房子
从除夕开始到正月初四，通常是不会打扫房子的，尤其是扫地，老一辈人认为会把财运扫走，而到了破五这一天，就要由内到外把垃圾扫成一个堆，然后放上鞭炮，点然后噼里啪啦，这样不好的运气都会一扫而光，剩下的便是财气和福气。
四、放鞭炮
正月初五这一天，家家户户都会燃放鞭炮，而且鞭炮越响越长，寓意就越好，代表着把穷运，以及各种不吉利都能轰去，有人还会燃放二踢脚，也叫“崩穷”，把晦气和穷气统统都崩掉。有些商户在初五这一天也会正式营业，放一串鞭炮，寓意今天财源滚滚。
